NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Training

Lesson Details 

PRE-COURSE ASSESSMENT - Range

  • Safely load and unload all available demonstration firearms, covering at least:

  • A revolver

  • A semi-auto pistol

  • Complete pistol shooting exercises as follows:

  • Two-handed standing position

  • One-handed standing position

  • ‘Random’ (TC choice) position

  • At least one target must have a 50% score or a group size less than or equal to 5 ½ inches

LESSON SEVEN (90 min) - Classroom

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson I: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Handling

LESSON EIGHT (30 min) - Classroom

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting

LESSON NINE (60 min) - Classroom

  • Basic Pistol Instructional Method

LESSON TEN (90 min) - Range

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson III: Firing the First Shots

LESSON ELEVEN (90 min) - Classroom

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson IV: Two-handed Standing and One-handed Standing Shooting Positions

LESSON TWELVE (60 min) - Classroom

  • Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginner Pistol Shooters

LESSON THIRTEEN (60 min) - Classroom

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson V: Pistol Sports and Activities

  • EXTRA – If time permits (60 min) - Classroom

  • Video: A Woman’s Guide to Firearms (Lyon House Production, sold by NRA)

EXAMINATION & CONCLUSION (90 min) - Classroom

  • Role of the examination in the training process

  • Student evaluations

  • Importance of student recognition

  • Take instructor certification test: Score of 90% required for full certification

  • Applying to the NRA for certification

Special NRA Pistol Instructor Catch-Up (3-hr) - Classroom

This special version of the NRA Instructor training course is designed for those individuals who have previously completed the DR Security & Training NRA Basic Pistol Student course.  Only those who have taken the course with DRS will be accepted,  and pre-approval must be granted by the school director.

  • Introduction to the Basic Pistol Lesson Plans

  • Improving student concentration

  • Instructor candidate presentations

  • Take instructor certification test: Score of 90% required for full certification

  • Applying to the NRA for certification

TOTAL

  • 11-Hour Classroom & Range or 3-hr Classroom
