NRA Muzzleloading Instructor Training

       

DR Security & Training is authorized to train NRA instructors in all three Muzzleloading firearm disciplines (Pistol, Rifle & Shotgun).  

Since NRA Muzzleloading instructors generally want to cover all of these courses. this school conducts the training for these three disciplines concurrently, thereby saving 21 hours on the combined instructional time needed for the three courses if done individually.

Lesson Details 

LESSON VI: 

Introduction to NRA-NMLRA Basic Muzzleloading Firearms Course Lesson Plans (30 mins)

  • Goals of the Basic Muzzleloading firearms shooting courses
  • Structure of the Course Outline and Lesson Plans
  • NRA policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials and teaching methods
  • Content of the Muzzleloading firearms shooting courses

LESSON VII: 

Teaching Muzzleloading Firearms Lesson I: Knowledge and Safety (90 mins)

  • Effectively teach the parts and operation of muzzleloading firearms according to NRA lesson plans
  • Teach the NRA fundamentals rules of safe gun handling
  • Conduct a safe muzzleloading firearm practical exercise

LESSON VIII: 

Teaching Muzzleloading Firearms Lesson II: Black Powder and Loading the Muzzleloading Firearms (90 mins)

  • Identify black powders and their proper use
  • Proper safety procedures for black powder use and storage
  • Proper components of a load
  • Proper procedures and accessories for loading a muzzleloading firearm

LESSON IX: 

Basic Muzzleloading Firearm Instructional Method (60 mins)

  • Importance of concentration for beginner muzzleloading shooters
  • Ways the instructor can enhance the students ability to concentrate
  • NRA ten-step method of training beginner muzzleloader shooters
  • The coach/pupil method and ball and dummy technique

LESSON X: 

Teaching Muzzleloading Firearms Lesson III: Firing and Cleaning Muzzleloading Firearms (90 mins)

  • Effectively teach the fundamentals of muzzleloading firearm shooting
  • Basic range safety procedures. commands, and shooting safety rules to be followed when shooting
  • Teach students to load and shoot muzzleloading firearms according to the NRA Instructional method
    • Pistols and Rifles from the benchrest
    • Shotguns at straight away targets

LESSON XI: 

Teaching Muzzleloading Firearms Lesson IV: Muzzleloading Shooting Practical (90 mins)

  • Identify the causes of muzzleloading firearm failure to fire and proper corrective procedures
  • Shooting muzzleloading firearms in more positions and greater challenge.
    • Pistol: Two-handed and one-handed standing
    • Rifle: Standing position
    • Shotgun: Non-straight away targets
  • Care for and clean a muzzleloading firearm

LESSON XII: 

Teaching Muzzleloading Pistol and Rifle Lesson V (150 mins)

Pistol: Shooting a Revolver (90 mins)

  • Proper Procedures for loading a muzzleloading revolver
  • Shooting the revolver from standing position
  • Disassemble and clean a muzzleloading revolver

Rifle: Shooting from Cross-Stick (sitting) Position (60 mins)

  • Shooting the Rifle from cross-stick position
  • Disassemble and clean a muzzleloading Rifle

LESSON XIII: (Lesson XII for MZ Shotgun)

Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginning Muzzleloading Shooters (60 mins)

  • Definition, purpose, and process of evaluating beginner muzzleloading shooters
  • Ho to provide feedback in a positive manner
  • Discuss ways to improve performance of begining muzzleloading shooters

LESSON XIV: (Lesson XIII for MZ Shotgun)

Teaching Muzzleloading Firearms Lesson V/VI: Muzzleloading Shooting Practical (60 mins)

  • Improving shooting skill through participation in muzzleloading shooting activities
  • Criteria for selecting muzzleloading firearms
  • Benefits of joining NRA and NMLRA
  • Objectives, programs and benefits to members of the NRA

Examination:

One each for Muzzleloading Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun (180 mins)

TOTAL

  • 15-Hour Classroom & Range (excluding Basic Instructor Training)
