DR Security Training Courses Offered

DR Security & Training offer a large range of training programs to meet the needs of firearms enthusiasts, professionals, competitive shooters, and those interested in improving their posture for personal protection.  If you would like more specific information on our course offerings not found in these pages, you can complete the information request form at the bottom of this page and someone will contact you or forward the information you need.  You could also register for any courses currently on the schedule, or be placed on the list for that next course by completing our Class Registration form.   Payments can also be made online for both down-payments and full-payments.

NRA First Steps Training Courses

These courses provide hands-on orientation to one specific rifle, pistol or shotgun model in as little as three hours, including an optional one-hour shooting session on a range.

NRA Basic Firearms Training Courses

These courses provide students with the practical knowledge and skills needed to safely pursue further interest with a particular firearm discipline or move on to advanced activities related to those interests.  Students completing these courses will achieve a solid foundation in the particular firearm classification (i.e. Pistol, Rifle or Shotgun), or for non-firearm specific courses, gain a thorough understanding of the concepts widely accepted for that subject matter.

NRA Instructor Training

These courses provide instructor candidates with the practical knowledge and skills needed to properly instruct beginning students in the specific disciplines of firearms instruction.  Instructor candidates completing these courses, and completing the required NRA certification application process, will achieve a solid foundation and earn the credentials for instructing the particular firearm training disciplines they become certified in. 

NRA Personal Protection

These courses provide students and instructors with the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for using a firearm successfully in self-defense situations.  The courses are geared toward training for situations both in the home and when traveling outside the home.   They are designed to be sequential in nature wherein students first complete the Basic Pistol training (or First Steps Pistol), then move on to Personal Protection in the Home or Defensive Pistol, and finally into the Personal Protection Outside the Home course.  Many of these course not only prepare students for the actual skills needed in actually using a firearm in these situations, but also what the emotional and legal ramifications of using a firearm can lead to.

NRA Training Counselor Workshop

This workshop is sponsored by the NRA, and enables instructors to upgrade their certification to that of Training Counselor (TC). NRA Training Counselors are experienced, active instructors who have been specifically trained and appointed by the NRA Training Department to conduct NRA instructor training courses.  Completion of this workshop is the first step in becoming an NRA Training Counselor.

Non-Resident Concealed Carry Weapons Licensing Training

These courses enable students to earn the certifications needed to complete the application process for various Carry Concealed Firearms licenses and permits.

Law Enforcement Firearms Training

DR Security & Training is qualified and authorized to develop and conduct courses specific to Law-Enforcement Firearms training.  These course are geared toward law enforcement and security guards who would like to improve their agency required qualification scores.  Students will also be exposed to the advanced concepts on Practical Pistol Combat shooting used in NRA sponsored law-enforcement competitions.

Tactical Firearms Training

DR Security & Training is qualified to develop and conduct courses specific to Tactical Firearms training.  These courses are geared toward the tactical use of specific firearm types and groupings of firearms (such as Handgun, or Handgun/Shotgun).  Pilot courses will be scheduled in the near future for both single firearm and combination groupings.

Advanced Marksmanship Skill Training

DR Security & Training offers a course on Advanced Marksmanship Skills.  This course is only provided to students who have previously completed instructor, law enforcement, tactical training, or can demonstrate equivalent experience.  This course focuses entirely on improving long-range handgun marksmanship skills.  Students will learn precision pistol shooting in two-handed and one-handed modes, and will learn the advanced concept of Bullseye shooting used in the CMP National Pistol matches.

Women Courses

DR Security & Training also offers a special firearms training courses geared toward women.  These courses include NRA courses such as the Refuse To Be A Victim® and the NRA Home Firearm Safety training course, plus special DR Security & Training courses such as Women & Firearms (Basic level) and Tactical & Personal Home Protection (Intermediate level).  The DR Security special courses combine standard NRA courses with additional training focused on women students.

Private Lessons

DR Security & Training offers private lessons on a case-by-case basis, which must be pre-approved by the school director prior to registration.
