IntroductionThe NRA Personal Protection Series is based on the building-block approach, moving from the simple to the complex. It is generally expected that all prospective students will have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course initially, then progressed on to having completed the Personal Protection in the Home training, prior to enrolling in the Personal Protection Outside the Home course. Participants in the person protection training will are also taught the moral, ethical and legal considerations for personal protection will increased focus as they move from training for in the home to outside the home. All NRA students for the Outside The Home course need to present a Personal Protection in the Home completion certificate, or demonstrate equivalent skills by completing the Pre-Evaluation in the presence of the NRA instructor or training counselor. In addition, the Personal Protection Outside the Home course can be completed at either a 'basic' or 'advanced' level, depending on their particular need or motivation. Those who go on to become instructors in this training are also expected to progress in a similar fashion from the simple to more complex. Only those instructor candidates who are first certified as Basic Pistol Instructors will be trained as Personal Protection in the Home Instructors, and only those who obtain that rating will be allowed to attend training as a Person Protection Outside the Home Instructor.
